The AM General M923 is part of the M939 5-ton 6×6 military truck family, introduced in the early 1980s to replace older M39/M809 series. It was designed to haul 10,000?lb (military-rated) cargo across rugged terrain with proven reliability and modular adaptability.

While the base M923 cargo truck is a flatbed version, some units have been outfitted as pressure digger trucks, by adding power take-off (PTO) driven hydraulic or pneumatic systems. These allow the truck to operate augers, compressors, or pressure-driven digger attachments to bore poles or perform civil engineering tasks in remote locations.

The combination of a powerful Cummins engine, Allison automatic transmission, robust air-brake truck chassis, and optional central tire inflation makes the M923 a workhorse widely used by military engineering units. Its capability to support digger tools adds versatility in field operations requiring pole installation or subsurface work.
